Horse Trekking

During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, although government restrictions have now lifted, we are continuing to ask our customers to wear a face covering whilst mounting and dismounting, to wear gloves whilst riding, and to make use of the hand-sanitising stations provided, for the comfort and safety of all our visitors and staff. Thank you.

Please continue to see our Facebook page for the latest information.

Here at Cannock Chase Trekking Centre, we pride ourselves on providing an excellent experience for all our customers, whether complete beginners or experienced riders.

Lisa and the team at Cannock Chase Trekking Centre will offer expert tuition delivered in a fun and relaxing way, enabling you to learn to horse ride whilst enjoying serene saddle-top views of the wildlife, and trailing through the stunningly beautiful forests and heathlands of Cannock Chase.

We have a coveted Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence, and strive constantly to make the customer experience a positive memorable event; the reviews and customer feedback are testimony to the ethos and values of the centre.

Paddock/Arena Rides

Half-hour lead-rein pony ride around our grounds, suitable for children aged 4 to 7 who want to try riding for the first time, as well as children with a little experience. On days when the weather is bad these will take place in our covered arena.

Sundays @ 3.20pm & 4.00pm for 30 minutes
(Age 4 to 7 years)

One-Hour Introductory Ride

Perfect for our younger riders, beginners and those looking to get back into riding after a break. The trek will involve walk and trot, depending on the group’s ability on the day.

Wednesday to Sunday @ 12.00pm for 1 hour
(Minimum age 7 years)

Two-Hour Mixed Ability Ride

This caters for all abilities from beginners to the more experienced rider. This unique trek allows complete beginners to find their feet, and learn how to walk and trot, whilst our more experienced riders will split off from the group part way through the ride to canter. This trek is extremely popular with groups and allows those who have had a break from riding to get back into the rhythm and the joys of the horse.

Winter (GMT) – Wednesday to Sunday @ 1.30pm for 2 hours
Summer (BST) – Wednesday to Sunday @ 2.00pm for 2 hours
(Minimum age 10 years)

Two-Hour Experienced Ride

This ride caters for regular riders who are comfortable and confident at walk, trot and canter in open spaces. It often covers more varied and challenging terrain, and is a great way for experienced riders to see a bit more of Cannock Chase. The pace of the ride is dependent on weather and ground conditions, and it takes into account the skills of the riders in the group on any given ride, as we try to ensure that the least strong rider in the group is comfortable.

Because of this, we respectfully request that you are realistic as to whether you have the skills and experience for this ride, for your own benefit and that of others in the group; we really want everyone to have a good time and not feel out of their depth! If you are unsure, please consider a mixed-ability ride as your first experience of trekking with us.

Wednesday to Sunday @ 9.30 am for 2 hours

Evening Treks

With the lighter nights comes the opportunity to trek out after hours!  From April we offer 1-hour mixed ability and 2-hour experienced treks.  It’s a great way to finish your day after work, especially during the warmer nights when we catch the sunset as we head back to the centre.  Times may vary; please check when booking.

Please be advised that these rides are not operating at present due to the current COVID-19 pandemic.
